Do I need to buy a ticket in advance?
No, tickets are not required. The Duquesne Incline operates on an exact cash fare system upon arrival. No debit or credit cards are accepted, and there are no reservations or advance payments.
Is there a change machine available?
Yes, a change machine is available for your convenience. However, having the exact fare ready speeds up the payment process.
Do seniors receive a discount?
Pennsylvania seniors (65+) who present a BLUE or YELLOW PRT card or a Senior ConnectCard ride for free. Otherwise, the standard adult fare applies. The Duquesne Incline is required to request a Pennsylvania Senior Citizen Transit ID card as proof of discount eligibility—no exceptions.
Are there restrooms available?
No, there are no restrooms at the Duquesne Incline. As a historic part of Pittsburgh's transportation system since 1877, it operates similarly to trolleys and cable cars.
Is the Incline wheelchair accessible?

  • The observation deck is also wheelchair accessible.

When is the busiest time to visit?
Saturdays and Sundays after noon are our busiest times. Expect to wait in line for approximately 10 minutes in both directions.
